History
I see myself as a very simple person, but what I see as simple others may see as fairly complex. I am generally a pretty quiet person, but I know exactly how to make a noise! I am a perfectionist by definition - to a scary degree.
In my school days, I saw myself doing something in the IT industry, and I learned everything I could to achieve that goal. I spent about about 4 years in the industry, realizing that it definitely was not what I wanted to be doing with my life.
I moved on to a career in customer service, realizing that it was a better fit for me but that I still wasn't happy doing what I was doing. At this point I made sense of the fact that I wanted to work with customers, but not five-hundred different people a day. I was looking for something closer to one-on-one interactions, where I could really thrive.
After almost 5 years in the customer service industry, the whole world hit a snag - COVID-19. Facing retrenchment, I now had to decide on what to do with my future. Having friends in the photography industry, I decided that I would like to see where it could take me. Within a week of learning about the industry, not having even purchased a camera - I was hooked.
After having done all my research into what camera I would purchase as my first; the working of cameras and what I needed to start my business I was ready. On October 15th, 2020 I set out with what I had in my bank account to but my first-ever camera. I bought myself Canon 250d, a low-end DSLR camera with all the features I needed. I also purchased a Canon EF 50mm 1.8 STM Lens that would be my first portrait lens.I am now working on a future in the photography industry, with a burning passion like I've never had for any job before. I'm slowly letting go of my inner introvert and turning the tides in my favor.
I wake up every morning, and put my 'vellies' shoes on, knowing that I made that commitment. When the shoes touch my feet, I dance to the beat.
My Goals in the World of Photography
A common interview question... *Insert mocking voice* "Where do you see yourself in five years?"
A question most people won't answer right off the bat, because it's not something we take into consideration... EVER! The world we live in leaves us so open to sleepless nights, because we tend to think in the here-and-now due to the pressure that modern life puts on us.
Even before I decided to start a business, I sat down and thought to myself what my contribution could be into our world. What goals would I set for myself as well as the business? Could I train young minds with an interest in photography and art? Could I help the less fortunate with affordable quality camera gear? Could I eventually set out to start a hub for young South-African photographers to showcase their work?
The answer is yes, I could. Yes, I would. Yes, I will.
I have set a goal for myself to allow train young minds in the industry, as well as try to produce jobs for a few people by providing affordable gear. So yes, I have a plan. The plan may take a few years to become a reality, but a game-plan is also a part of the game, isn't it?
